Nuts about Donuts definitely can make anyone who even remotely loves donuts go gaga with the aesthetically beautiful and deliciously soft donuts. The young entrepreneur, Noor Fatima, talks to Piñata about her business, passion, and donuts!
- How did it all start?
It was back in 7th semester in our Entrepreneurship’s class when our teacher announced the $10 business project. My friends and I were discussing ideas when I said:
“donuts, I’ll sell donuts”.
I remember how we all laughed at how ludicrous the idea sounded. Little did I know that donuts would become my life. Over the period of a few months, ‘Nuts about Donuts’ expanded from being just a class project to a full-fledged running business. I began selling donuts day and night while juggling with assignments and quizzes.
Her management skills are indeed impressive.
2) What is the specialty of Nuts about Donuts?
Nuts about Donuts is a home-based donut business, dedicated to creating unique gourmet-style donuts from scratch. We aim to take the donut trend to the next level by combining new interesting flavors with classic favorites. Our specialty is the brioche dough which we use as a base for all our donuts; it gives them their signature pillowy soft texture.
The effort is definitely evident in these delicious donuts.
3) How did you discover culinary arts and the donut crafts that you do?
The interest had always been there but it was back in the summer of 2010 when the kitchen truly became my territory. I used to pore over cookbooks as if they were novels. I would post pictures of tacos and S’more brownie pies on my Facebook and Instagram and bring cupcakes and brownies to class. People started telling me how I was so inspiring and they asked me for recipes. That’s when I started writing down my kitchen experiments, and I started capturing the processes and the end-results in pictures, and that’s how Spatula in My Pocket was born. It is a blog where I document my life after college and share recipes that I have tried and loved. Spatula in My Pocket led to Nuts about Donuts, a platform solely dedicated to my love for donuts.
So here we have a self-taught artist who knows her work and her direction.
4) Who or what has been your inspiration?
I’d fawn over Instagram photos of all these amazing flavors of donuts and cool donut shops running all over the world and be upset that we had nothing like this in Pakistan. And so, I took it upon myself to introduce Pakistan to some quality donuts.
…and she has indeed been pretty successful.
5) Is there anything you would like to tell our readers about your journey till here, your actual dream about it and where you see this going?
Nuts about Donuts celebrated its first anniversary this October. I’ve made over 5000 donuts while single-handedly managing the marketing and the business side of it all. Now I want to move beyond the home-based level and open up a real donut shop. A pink and black donut shop selling coffee and new flavors of donuts each day – that’s my ultimate dream.
We are already imagining the beautiful shop with yummy desserts and hot, aromatic coffee. Piñata wishes her a bright future.
