Firstly, let me tell you the difference between a button up and a button down shirt. Most of the people out there may be thinking both are same – stop right there because the answer is a big NO.
There’s a difference. A button down has buttons on the collar and holds the flaps of the collar down while in the case of a button up there are no buttons on the collar.
Here’s where it gets a little tricky: A button down shirt is a button up shirt but a button up is not always a button down.
Hold on, I know that was confusing. Go back and read it again.
Now, button down shirts and button up both are in trend; truth be told, it’s never really out of style because of how classy it makes a man look.
Let me tell you guys one fun fact: button downs were originally made for polo players because it helps the player to fasten down the collar while riding their horses in a match.
Coming back to the point, the button down collars are casual and normally you would not see them being worn with a suit because suit by its nature is more formal so it’s like water and oil – they don’t mix well together. However, it is okay for you to wear it with blazer and trousers and if you decide to wear it with a sports jacket and air trousers or even denim – oh boy, you will be stealing some hearts!
