Atletico 1 – 1 Qarabag:
In a match where Atletico desperately needed to win to advance to the Ro16, they were left licking their wounds, drawing 1-1 to Qarabag. Qarabag opened the scoring through Michel in the 41st minute but Atletico drew level in the 57th minute. That was all they could manage as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Basel 1 – 2 CSKA:
With Man United almost through, the pressure is on Basel and CSKA to see who advances with them. CSKA travelled to the Swiss team and the hosts took the lead in the 33rd minute. CSKA got one back through the substitute Dzagoev and it was Wernbloom who won it for them in the 80th minute.
Man United 2 – 0 Benfica:
United continued their 100% winning record in Europe this season as they overcame Benfica by 2 goals to nil. Even though Martial missed a penalty early on, United never looked in pressure and took the lead in the 45th minute as Matic’s powerful shot rebounded off the keeper into the net. Marcus Rashford then won a penalty in the 78th minute and Daley Blind converted it to complete a 2-0 win.
Celtic 1 – 2 Bayern Munich:
The Bavarians travelled to Scottish giants Celtic and they took the lead early in the 22nd minute through Coman. The game then went into a slumber till the 75th minute when Celtic equalized and their fans went berserk. But their joy wasn’t to be as Martinez scored just 3 minutes later to win it 2-1 for the Germans.
Olympiakos 0 – 0 Barcelona:
This match ended in a boring goalless draw. Messi, Busquets and Suarez went close on some occasions but the match ended with both teams sharing points.
PSG 5 – 0 Anderlecht:
PSG found a new hero in Kurzawa as he became the 1st defender in history to score a Champions League hat trick. Neymar and Veratti scored a goal apiece but it was Kurzawa who stole the show.
Roma 3 – 0 Chelsea:
The English champions were humbled 3-0 by a rejuvenated Roma side. El Shaarawy opened the scoring just 38 seconds into the match with a neatly struck volley. El Shaarawy got another in the 37th minute as Roma began dictating terms. Perotti then scored Roma’s 3rd in the 64th minute and it could’ve easily been 5 or 6 goals bit Courtois’ keeping kept the scoreline to 3-0.
Sporting CP 1 – 1 Juventus:
Sporting hosted Italian champions Juve and they unexpectedly got the lead in tue 20th minute. Juve then had chances throughout and it was Higuain who scored the only goal for Juve in the 79th minute.
Besiktas 1 – 1 Monaco:
Monaco travelled away to the Turkish champions who are flying high and are top of their group. The visitors took the lead at the stroke of half time but Besiktas managed to draw the game with Tosun scoring a penalty in the 79th minute.
Dortmund 1 – 1 APOEL:
Dortmund now face an early exit from the Champions League as they failed to win against APOEL. Even though they dominated proceedings, but it looks like they’ll be relegated to the Europa League.
Liverpool 3 – 0 Maribor:
Liverpool won an easy home match as they romped past Maribor 3-0. A missed penalty from Milner didn’t cost them much as Sturridge, Can and Salah scored a goal each to win it 3-0.
Napoli 2 – 4 Man City:
This encounter promised a goal fest as both high flying teams were in sublime form. Napoli gained the lead through Insigne in the 22nd minute but goals from Otamendi and Stones put City 2-1 up by the 48th minute. Napoli drew level through Jorginho’s penalty but Aguero and Sterling’s goals meant City won 4-2.
Porto 3 – 1 Leipzig:
Hector Herrera got us underway here as his goal in the 13th minute put the hosts 1-0 up. But Leipzig hit back through Werner in the 48th minute. Danilo and M. Pereira then scored goals for Porto as they went 2nd in their group.
Sevilla 2 – 1 Spartak:
Sevilla keep mounting on Liverpool as the race to finish on top of the group intensifies. Goals from Banega and Lenglet mean Sevilla won 2-1 and are just a point behind leaders Liverpool.
Tottenham 3 – 1 Real Madrid:
Tottenham completely outclassed defending champions Real Madrid as Real werr taught a footballing lesson. Dele Alli openes the scoring in the 27th minute after a sumptuous pass from Trippier. Alli then got his 2nd in the 56th minute as he skipped past 5 Madrid players to score a great goal. Erikksen then got his name on the scoresheet in the 66th minute as Spurs began running riot. Although Ronaldo got 1 back in the 81st minute, it was too little too late. Tottenham could’ve got 2-3 more goals but poor finishing from them kept the score to 3-1 and it left Zidane with plenty to ponder about.
